Among the nations preparing to enter the first-ever IFAF Africa Flag Football Continental Championships later this year, the Fédération Camerounaise de Football Américain launched its season festivities in Yaoundé marked by hosting the ninth edition of its women’s championship.
The Camer Football Women’s Signature Event Series was played in the nation’s capital from March 15-16 at the Yaoundé Omnisports Annex 1 Stadium as one of many International Women's Day festivities in Cameroon.
The Yaoundé Panthers were crowned champions as they beat the Bamenda Titans by 12-6, while the Douala Sharks claimed third place with the Limbe Sirens finishing fourth overall.
Making a claim to be included in the Indomitable Lions’ national team when Cameroon’s women perform on the IFAF international stage for the first time, Margaret Ngam of the Panthers was named the best quarterback of the tournament and Kishi Paula of the Titans was honored as the overall best player of the competition.
President of American Football federation in Cameroon, Mr. Awasum Junior, said: “These tournaments are extremely important for the development and growth of the sport of flag football in Cameroon. I thank the many stakeholders who support our sport in Cameroon.”
The Fédération Camerounaise de Football Américain benefits from partnerships with the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education, the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and the Family, the Cameroon Radio Television (CRTV), the Cameroon Tribune, Global Women Emancipation in Sports (GWES) and Boisson du Cameroun.
The Women’s Signature Event also included business fairs, conferences and workshops to serve as a platform for participants to interact with business executives, companies, media and community leaders.
