The International Federation of American Football wishes to express its condolences after three members of the Coritiba Crocodiles died when a bus carrying the team to the Brazilian American Football Championship game crashed near Rio de Janeiro.
Among the lives lost was wide receiver Lucas Barros, 19, who was the MVP of the Brazilian national team’s opening game at the IFAF U20 World Championships in Canada this summer. He led the team with 18 receptions for 164 yards and a touchdown during the tournament.
Lucas Padilha, 42, and Daniel Antônio dos Santos, 44, also died in the crash and eight people were injured.
“Everyone at IFAF and the American football community mourns this tragic loss of life, and our thoughts are with the families, friends and teammates of those killed,” said IFAF President Pierre Trochet, pictured with #88 Barros after a game in Edmonton on June 22.
