A total of 28 officials from 11 nations will take charge of the 2024 IFAF World Junior Championships in Edmonton, Alberta, this summer from June 22-30.
The group has been selected from Australia, Austria, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, Italy, Norway, and Poland by IFAF Supervisor of Officials Davie Parsons, tournament Referee Chief Parry Steen and the organizing committee in Canada.
“I am looking forward to the championship with confidence in the knowledge we have been able to assemble a group of highly experienced and competent officials from all over the world,” said Parsons. “The support and cooperation demonstrated by the Canadian Officiating Department and our member nations throughout the process has been fantastic and made the task that much easier to complete.”
Among the group of officials drawn from three continents are two female officials in Canadian Julia Long and Chiara Tomaz from Italy.
During the build-up to the tournament the officials will work together through online discussion and training sessions on rules, rule interpretations, mechanics, and officiating philosophy. Physical fitness and wellbeing initiatives will also be included.
During games numerous essential off-field staff will support the officials by operating scoreboards, game clocks, and play clocks, and serving as chain crews.
“IFAF would like to thank our hosts the Canadian officials for providing this cover and of course to congratulate everyone who has been selected to officiate at the IFAF world championships,” added Parsons.
The national teams of Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, Japan, Panama, and the United States will converge on the capital of Alberta from June 22-30 to contest a total of 12 games played across two venues. The City of Champions’ 55,000-capacity Commonwealth Stadium will host the gold and bronze medal deciders on Sunday, June 30, as well as reigning champions Canada’s games. The adjacent Clarke Stadium (3,000 capacity) will feature six games and all team practices.
Tickets for single games, Canada Passes, and Tournament Passes are now on sale through TicketMaster and from the tournament website https://worldjrfootballchampionships.com.
