Three European nations have joined forces this weekend in their quest for success at this summer’s 2024 IFAF Flag Football World Championships.

The women’s national teams of Germany, Czechia, and Great Britain will play a series of friendly matches this weekend on Saturday and Sunday in Prague.

For European bronze medalists Germany, the aim of the event is to prepare and select the players who will represent their country at the World Championships in Lahti, Finland, from August 27-30.

“We are delighted to have the opportunity to gain high-quality match practice against two of the best national teams in Europe,” said head coach Jona Winkel. “These test matches will give us a good insight into where we stand and what we still need to work on in preparation for this year’s World Championship in Finland. Some of our younger players will get their first experience at international level and for all of them it is a great opportunity to improve.”

Organizers Czechia will also field two teams in addition to a one-off line up of players from both rosters, while 2023 IFAF European Championship winners Great Britain has traveled to Prague with one squad.

“It’s a great opportunity to try a few things out and nail down our selection process,” said GB head coach Dean Whittingslow. “Playing against high quality opponents will really allow us to stress test what we’ve been working this year, to make sure we’re ready for worlds this summer.”

Games will be played from 9am to approximately 4.40pm on Saturday and 9am through 3.10pm on Sunday across two fields, with each of the five teams playing six times.
