IFAF granted Associate Membership of ASOIF
IFAF is honoured to have been granted Associate Membership of the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF), following a vote at the ASOIF annual General Assembly during the SportAccord World Sport & Business Summit 2024. Pierre Trochet, President of IFAF, said: “This is a huge moment in our Olympic journey and, on behalf of IFAF, I would like to thank the ASOIF General Assembly for granting us Associate Membership. ASOIF’s invaluable support and advice will be crucial as we focus on delivering a spectacular showcase for our sport in Los Angeles. “As we build towards flag football’s Olympic debut at LA28, working hand in hand with colleagues at LA28 and the IOC, we continue to celebrate the extraordinary growth of our sport. We look forward to inspiring with a record-breaking edition of the IFAF Flag Football World Championships in Finland this August where the world’s best talent will showcase the dynamism and creativity of flag football. “I would also like to congratulate Ingmar De Vos, on his election as President of ASOIF. We look forward to working with him and the entire ASOIF team to strengthen Olympic sport.” ASOIF represents and serves Summer Olympic International Federations. Its mission is to unite, promote and support member IFs, preserve their autonomy, while advocating for their common interests and goals, and act as an added value provider to member IFs and the Olympic Movement. Flag football – a short, fast, non-contact and gender-equal format, renowned as the most accessible and inclusive version of American football – will feature on the official program of the Olympic Games for the first time in history at Los Angeles 2028. Flag is spearheading exceptional worldwide participation in American football, with an estimated 20 million in more than 100 countries currently playing the discipline and youth audiences, women and girls and new international markets driving further growth. This year will see a record-breaking edition of the IFAF World Flag Football Championships in Lahti, Finland in August - the culmination of the biggest ever cycle of IFAF Continental competitions, involving 65 international representative teams.
