Mexico is one of the most prominent and successful nations when it comes to Flag Football. Quarterback Diana Flores is an instantly recognizable NFL Flag Ambassador who has starred in a Super Bowl commercial, is a World Games champion and has won an IFAF World Championships silver medal.
Aspiring to follow in her footsteps are the two girls and seven boys who make up the Bulls Saltillo, Mexico’s representative at this year’s NFL Pro Bowl international flag football tournament, which begins on Friday.
Under head coach Pamela Reyes, the Bulls have been playing flag football for several years since their school joined the NFL Flag program.
“The players have worked hard to become excellent flag football players,” explains Pamela. “Their effort, desire and perseverance have helped them to be well prepared for competitions and they’re very excited for this unique and wonderful experience in Orlando.”
The Bulls qualified to be at the Pro Bowl this week by winning their state championship and then winning every game in the competition at the national level. They hope to take the championship trophy back to Mexico.
“They are eager to be on the playing field and be able to compete against other countries,” added Pamela. “The emotion they transmit is incredible and we know it will be an unforgettable trip. Parents are proud to see the opportunities that have come for their children and eager to see them on the playing field. The Bulls family is a united and incredible family.
“I am sure that it will be a great competition and that the Bulls players will know how to use their best skills to achieve victory as a team. We have a very united team and above all a very strong team. The basis of their success team has been hard work on the practice field and now they get to show what they have learned on the biggest stage.
The Bulls begin their challenge on Friday at 9.35am ET against the Lings School from the UK, then face Australia’s Varsity College from the Gold Coast (10.45am) and Kingsway Academy from Nassau in the Bahamas (11.55am) before the knockout stages on Saturday.
