IFAF is proud to announce that Hong Kong have been awarded Allied Membership. The Hong Kong American Football League (HKAFL) was founded in 2011. Currently, the league has a thriving community of over 1000 members, with opportunities to participate in both tackle football and flag football. For the flag football league, there are 16 teams participating with a Fall and Spring Season each year. There are a number of local and international tournaments throughout the year, and social events and gatherings for the American football community here in Hong Kong. For tackle football, there are three semi-professional teams (the Cobras, the Warhawks, and the Combat Orcas) for interested players to join. The season typically lasts from September to May each year. In addition to weekly practices, games, and tournaments, the teams are a part of the Chinese National Football League, participating in the South Division. In addition, a youth football program is available for ages 3 and above for children and youth to join and learn the fundamentals of the game. The program is led by players from both the tackle and flag team, and continues to grow and develop across the region.
