LA28 is Two Years Out! Are You Ready?
Flag football is LA28-bound and the two-year countdown to the sport’s historic Olympic Games debut begins today, Tuesday, July 14.
Flag football is on track to be one of the marquee events at LA28 with six IFAF men’s and women’s national teams competing in a prime downtown location, the state-of-the-art Exposition Park Stadium, next to the iconic Coliseum in Los Angeles.
LA28 will feature 14 Flag Football competition sessions during eight days, with preliminaries beginning on Saturday 15 July – the first day of Games competition. Prime-time scheduling for medal games over the coveted middle weekend of the Games means that the men will feature in “Friday Night Lights” action on July 21 and the women will decide their medal games on “Super Saturday” on July 22.
To buy tickets… Flag football is one of the Games’ hottest tickets. All the available inventory within Drop 1 sold out when the first LA28 ticket drop took place earlier this year. The good news is that a second ticket drop is planned from August 10 to 20 this year when more flag football tickets will be available.
To participate, you must first register for the draw to be randomly assigned a time slot for purchase. Don’t miss the registration deadline of July 22! Further LA28 ticket drops are planned ahead of the Games.
NB: Qualifying Visa cardholders will be randomly selected for pre-sale timeslots between July 29-31.

To volunteer… Every great production needs a crew, and starting today, LA28 will begin casting the team powering the world’s largest sporting event. As the two-year countdown to the Games begins, applications are now open for fans from around the world to apply to become one of the up to 60,000 volunteers who will make up the Volunteer Crew for the Games. Leading the charge is 1984 Olympic Gold Medalist Carl Lewis, who has been named an Official Ambassador of the LA28 Volunteer Program. Sport-specific volunteer roles for Flag football will be assigned through a separate process, which will be communicated at a later date. For more information and to apply click here.
To get media accreditation… Media accreditation for the Olympic Games is managed by National Olympic Committees (NOCs.)
Each NOC receives a quota of Games media credentials, which they assign according to their own process. Demand invariably exceeds supply. For LA28, registration will take place via a centralized platform, over a three-month period in the second half of 2026. IFAF is advising flag football media (press, photographers and non-rights-holding broadcasters) to ensure they are registered on the media database of the NOC of their country of origin – and to look out for important instructions over the coming weeks. Together with the staff of your national federation, the IFAF team is here to offer any support you might need in establishing your media credentials with your NOC Communications department.
It’s important to note the very early deadlines. IFAF wants its committed flag football media colleagues out in force in LA28, but you won’t be able to start the accreditation process after this year.
To qualify as a team… Here’s a reminder of how it will work:
As the host country, USA men and women are pre-qualified for LA28.
At this year’s IFAF Flag Football World Championships in Düsseldorf, the two top men’s and two top women’s teams – not including the USA – will also earn their spots.
A total of 10 men’s and 10 women’s teams (2 per continent) will qualify to participate in the Olympic Q-Series via the 2027 IFAF Continental Championships,
Two LA28 berths per gender will be awarded from the tournaments at the historic Olympic Park in Montreal that will be played from June 1-4, 2028. The remaining 8 men’s and 8 women’s teams will then travel to the iconic Camping World Stadium in Orlando to battle for the final LA28 qualification spot in each category from June 8-11, 2028.
