Brazil was crowned champions of the men’s and women’s tournaments at the 2026 South American Regional Flag Football Championship in Colombia after the form book was torn up and there were plenty of shocks in the knockout stages.
Argentina’s men and Colombia’s women remained unbeaten in Medellín after the group stages but were unable to turn that success into taking home the gold medal from the Cancha de Fútbol Marte No. 1 in Medellín.
In the men’s competition, the first surprise came when previously winless Chile cruised past Venezuela 37-12 for the right to meet 4-0 group winners Argentina in the semifinals. The Chileans the provided the shock of the tournament by upsetting Argentina 21-19 to advance to the gold medal game. In the other final four clash, host Colombia (3-1) was beaten 42-19 by a Brazil (2-2) team they had beaten by a single point in the group stages.
The Gold Medal Game was a close call as the Brazil team that will head to Germany to compete in IFAF World Flag 2026 from August 13 to 16 edged the final 28-26. Colombia beat Argentina to the bronze medal in a 32-28 victory.
In the women’s competition, Venezuela’s first win came by a single point over Chile to set up a semifinal clash with Colombia, which the hosts won 41-12. Brazil beat Argentina by the same score to advance to the final.
The Gold Medal went to Brazil though it was a close two-point win as Colombia was beaten 21-19. Argentina had too much firepower for Venezuela and won the meeting for third place with a 35-7 victory.
