El Salvador will host the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Flag Football Regional Championships when men’s and women’s teams from six nations compete from June 18-21.
The Cayman Islands, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico and host El Salvador will participate in round robin tournaments at Cuscatlan Stadium and in San Salvador on June 18 and 22 and at the Estadio Las Delicias in Santa Tecia on June 19 and 20.
El Salvador claimed the bronze medal in both the men’s and women’s competitions at the 2025 Central American Games. The men beat Nicaragua 38-18 in the third-place game, while the women defeated Honduras in an 18-point shut out. The men also finished in 11th place at the 2025 IFAF Americas continental championships.
Jamaica made its debut at the 2025 IFAF Americas Flag competition with the men finishing tenth overall with their performances including a first-ever tournament win as they beat El Salvador 32-26 in the group stages. The women finished in ninth place having battled through a tough group that included three teams that will head to this summer’s IFAF World Flag: then world number one the United States, host Panama and Brazil.
Nicaragua’s men beat Honduras in the 2025 Central American Games but were fell to El Salvador in the semifinals, while the women’s team was unable to record a win in their tournament.
The Cayman Islands, Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico are in action for the first time at this level of international competition.
The games begin at 8.45am on Thursday, June 18 with group play for two day and a half of action deciding the order of the playoffs which begin on Saturday, June 20. The men’s Gold Medal Game will be played at 3.15pm on Sunday, June 21 and the women’s Gold Medal Game follows at 4.30pm.
