The American Football Federation of Cameroon (FECAFA) has officially launched its 2026 activities with a flag football gala game at the Omnisports Stadium in Yaoundé.
A team representing the Cameroon federation lined up against the staff of the Embassy of the United States in an event that also commemorated the year of the 250th anniversary of United States independence.
Organised within the framework of sports diplomacy, the gathering brought together members of the diplomatic corps and students from 14 Yaoundé secondary, high schools and Universities.
FECAFA President Junior Awasum described the event as a fresh start for the foundation to strengthen lasting relations through the sport of American football. Last year, Cameroon’s men’s national flag football team claimed fifth place when history was made in Egypt as teams from across the African continent competed at the first-ever IFAF Africa Flag continental championships.
The season launch event came three weeks after a successful coaching and officiating clinic organised by FECAFA and the U.S. Embassy featured participants from eight regions of Cameroon to celebrate the Super Bowl LX spectacle.
