Capping a week of unprecedented flag football integrations, Super Bowl LX provided the stage for a special edition of the LA28 emblem to be unveiled to an NBC audience expected to exceed 125 million people in the United States.
The emblem design, revealed for the first time during the live global Super Bowl broadcast, aims to spotlight Los Angeles’ creative spirit and celebrate Flag Football ahead of its historic Olympic Games debut.
The custom creation is the product of a unique collaboration between LA28 and the NFL. The design draws inspiration from the iconic laces of a football, wrapped in the sport’s dynamic flowing flag. It joins a collection of 50+ unique emblems of the LA28 Games which together represent the voices and partners that comprise the Host City’s vibrant culture, creativity, inclusiveness and self-expression.
“This emblem is another step in building excitement and momentum toward LA28, giving fans a new way to connect with the sport and the Games,” said Peter O’Reilly, NFL Executive Vice President of Club Business, International, and League Events. “As interest in flag football continues to grow, this emblem helps bring that energy to life and engage fans around what’s ahead.”
“The release of this new emblem with the NFL is an exciting moment on our shared road to 2028 and the Olympic debut of Flag Football, contributing to the immense momentum behind the Games,” said Janet Evans, LA28 Chief Athlete Officer. “We’re proud to collaborate with the NFL on this design that celebrates the power of sport and captures the athletic dynamism that will define LA28.”
Pierre Trochet, President of the International Federation of American Football (IFAF) added: “This awesome creative collaboration reflects the excitement felt right across the worldwide American Football community as we prepare for our sport’s historic first Olympic Games appearance in LA28. It’s fantastic to have our primary professional league partner so strongly committed alongside us, lending its platforms and innovation to support the success of the Games.”
IFAF and the NFL are working together to develop flag football around the world and jointly proposed the sport’s inclusion in the LA28 Games.
Trochet continued: “Super Bowl LX on NBC, coinciding with the Winter Olympics, was a perfect platform to demonstrate the scale of the opportunity in bringing these two sports superpowers together – something that has been at the heart of our proposition with Olympic flag football.
“The commercial momentum around flag is off the scale, and this week the world saw tangible examples of what the NFL, working with IFAF, has to offer the Olympic movement.
“For our sport, the Olympic opportunity is transformative. In tandem with the NFL’s international expansion, IFAF is seeing participation rates double annually in countries from Germany to China, where half a million new players picked up a football in the last 12 months.”
In celebration of the growth of the game and the upcoming LA28 Olympics, the NFL this year turned Super Bowl week into a giant flag football showcase, centred on the Super Bowl experience stage at the Moscone Center in San Francisco.
Highlights included:
- The 2026 NFL Pro Bowl as the NFC defeated AFC 66-52 in a flag football matchup.
- The 2026 NFL Flag International Championship, which featured the top U13 co-ed teams from 14 countries competing in a three-day tournament. Japan beat Panama in an exciting championship game. This was one of the largest international NFL Flag competitions to date, with teams and athletes from Austria, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Great Britain, Ireland, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Panama, and Spain participating.
- The Toyota Glow Up Classic returned at Super Bowl LX at NFL Flag Fieldhouse where the game’s future – Females in Flag – was spotlighted during this first-of-it-kind glow-in-the-dark flag football showdown. The game gathered the Bay Area’s top high school female athletes in a unique competition under UV lights and in glowing jerseys and gear in a one-of-a-kind spectacle.
- The United States earned bragging rights over Mexico in an international friendly as single point separated these old rivals with a 35-34 victory mainly coming courtesy of the United States’ defense rather than their often-ruthless offense. With Mexico leading 20-16 going into the second half and within striking distance of opening a ten-point lead, Jamie Kennedy produced what proved to be a game changing interception on a tipped ball near the end zone.
- The YouTube Creator Game showdown connected with fans worldwide as top talent came together from across sports, music and YouTube in a game streamed live exclusively on YouTube. IFAF flag football royalty Diana Flores (Mexico) and Ashlea Klam (USA) captained team alongside celebrities from Cardi B to Benson Boone.
USA Football’s WR Ashlea Klam became the latest IFAF star to be named a Global Football Ambassador, joining a cast of international figureheads including Mona Stevens, (GER), Kodie Fuller (AUS), Diana Flores (MEX), Gabi Bankhart (BRA) and Phoebe Schecter (GBR), who were present at many events and parties across the busySuper Bowl week.
Another member of the prestigious club, Italian DB Nausicaa Dell’Orto, brought Olympic spirit direct from Milan-Cortina, arriving in San Francisco just hours after carrying the Olympic Torch through her hometown in Northern Italy – an honour that recognised her unique passion and contribution to global flag football as one of the women lighting the path for future generations in the sport.
Flag football fans worldwide are invited to register for the LA28 Ticket Draw* and take their first step toward witnessing Olympic history.
Flag football is on track to be one of the marquee events at LA28 with six IFAF men’s and women’s national teams competing in a prime downtown location, the state-of-the-art Exposition Park Stadium, next to the iconic Coliseum.
LA28 will feature 14 Flag Football competition sessions during eight days, with preliminaries beginning on Saturday 15 July – the first day of Games competition. Prime-time scheduling for medal games over the coveted middle weekend of the Games means that the men will feature in “Friday Night Lights” action and the women will decide their medal games on “Super Saturday”.
