Rules of the Game

The IFAF rules of the Game are the codified rules of the different disciplines of American football.

The Rules mention the number of players a team should have, the game length, the size of the field and ball, the type and nature of fouls that referees may penalise and wider rules that define the sport.

During a game, it is the task of the referee to interpret and enforce the Rules of the Game are for all participants to respect and abide by them.

IFAF produces Rule Books for both the tackle and flag disciplines of the game.

IFAF also recognises the 12-a-side Rule Book produced by Football Canada and the 7-a-side Flag Football Rule Book produced by USA Football.
