3 Questions For The Coaches American Samoa Women

During the buildup to the 2025 IFAF Asia-Oceania Flag Football Championships, IFAF has posed three questions to the head coaches of the men’s and women’s teams about to compete for continental glory.

American Samoa women’s head coach Nicolette Verdugo will lead the IFAF tournament newcomers against Australia and New Zealand in Ningbo.

What are the goals for your team in this tournament ?

My short-term goals for this are to win and qualify for the world championships, execute as a unit being on one accord, and showcase the talents of the women who are representing American Samoa.

I am blessed to represent American Samoa on an international stage as the head coach. My long-term goal is to build the sport of flag football for females and have American Samoa reap the benefits of this growth.

What will be the strengths of your team, and which players should we watch for?

The strengths of this team are that all the athletes are two-way players and are well-versed in the 5v5 format at either a club or national level. Each player brings a level tenacity, strong work ethic, and a high IQ for the game of flag football. Watch everyone!

What do you know about the other Oceania teams you will play?

Australia and New Zealand definitely have height. Both countries are fierce competitors, and I can always expect solid competition from both countries.

I will expect the haka from New Zealand. I am looking forward to that especially because it’ll showcase the Polynesian culture.
