During the buildup to the 2025 IFAF Asia-Oceania Flag Football Championships, IFAF has posed three questions to the head coaches of the men’s and women’s teams about to compete for continental glory.
Korea men’s national team head coach Jeong YuChan is a former player who once wore the South Korean national flag on his chest. As a linebacker, he represented Korea in two IFAF World Championships and after retirement, transitioned into coaching.
Currently, he serves as the head coach of both the Korean adult flag football national team and the U-17 national team. He also gained playing experience in Japan’s X-League and expanded his coaching knowledge through training and camps in the United States.
All of these experiences have shaped his mission: to bring Korean football onto the world stage.
What are the goals for your team in this tournament ?
Our goal is not just about achieving results, but about maintaining focus until the very end and demonstrating strong teamwork. While improving each player’s individual skills is important, our top priority is to showcase the culture and spirit of the national team on the field. Through this tournament, we aim to create a stepping stone for our players to reach even greater stages in the future.
What will be the strengths of your team, and which players should we watch for?
Our team’s greatest strengths are our strong unity and adaptability. We can flexibly adjust strategies in various situations, with players moving in complete trust of one another.
Key players to watch include our receivers, who bring speed and agility, and our quarterback, who calmly reads the game. On defense, our focused rusher and a linebacker with solid tackling ability can change the flow of the game at any moment.
What do you think of the group you have been drawn into?
The group we belong to is not an easy one, but that makes it a great opportunity to raise our fighting spirit. Each opponent has clear strengths and facing them will challenge us. But we believe this diversity will help us grow, and we trust that we will find ways to break through.
