During the buildup to the 2025 IFAF Asia-Oceania Flag Football Championships, IFAF has posed three questions to the head coaches of the men’s and women’s teams about to compete for continental glory.
Korea women’s national team head coach Park JaeSick led the introduction and distribution of flag football in Korea in 1999. He authored Flag Football Masterclass, the first dedicated Korean guidebook for the sport-now used by schools and the national team alike.
He was president of Korea's Flag Football Federation as they hosted the 2006 IFAF Flag Football World Championships and actively promotes the game by volunteering as a national-level commentator, helping expand awareness and participation across the country.
What are the goals for your team in this tournament?
Team Korea's motto is "Per aspera ad astra" which means "(Forward) through hardships to the stars."
It's very fitting, as we've been actively participating in international tournaments for the past few years. We haven't reached the top yet but we firmly believe in our national team's steady and consistent growth.
Our goal for this tournament is to show ourselves and the world the results of our hard work and dedication.
What will be the strengths of your team, and which players should we watch for?
Team Korea's players are very intelligent on the field. What we may lack in size, we more than make up for with football IQ, creativity and teamwork.
We have a 19-year-old rising star, Jaye (#2), on the team who is a speedy two-way player-definitely and is one to keep an eye out for. Another young talent to look out for is Yunwoo (#91) on the offense, who combines physicality with playmaking abilities.
What do you think of the group you have been drawn into?
Flag football as a sport has advanced greatly since its selection for the LA 2028 Olympics, especially across Asia. We're excited to see this growth reflected in the quality of play within our group.
We haven't yet seen Jordan on the international stage, so we are very curious about their play styles and strength. It's always exciting to encounter new teams and see fresh talent not just in our team but among our fellow players.
