Nine men’s teams remain unbeaten at the IFAF Euro Flag 2025 continental championships at the Val-de-Marne Interdepartmental Sports Park in Choisy-le-Roi, Val-de-Marne, in the southeast suburbs of Paris.
In Group B reigning men’s champion Germany is in a three-way tie at the top of the standings with six-time European title holder Denmark and surprise package Slovenia with those three teams battling for the top two places on Friday to qualify for the quarterfinals.
Host France, IFAF world championships bronze medal winner Switzerland, top-ranked Austria, high scoring Israel, Italy and Great Britain complete the list of teams whose tournament has been perfect so far.
Friday’s remaining group games will decide the lineups for the quarterfinals which begin at 4.45pm CET on Friday. All scores, the game schedule and standings are available at the tournament website: https://euroflag2025.com/en/live-scores/
Group A
Current world number two and top-ranked Austria posted a 3-0 record having breezed by Georgia 62-18 to open their challenge in a tournament that saw them win the silver media two years ago. Great Britain also boasts a 3-0 mark with their first win a narrow 27-26 victory over Spain, who are in third place at 1-2.
“I am of course very satisfied,” said Austria head coach Michael Salamon. “We didn’t let anything slip in the first two games. Tomorrow, we need to stay focused from the morning on and win against Croatia. Then it will come down to the game against Great Britain for first place in the group - and then it’s slowly towards the quarterfinals.”
Friday’s outlook: The group winner will be decided at 3.30pm CET when Austria and Great Britain clash, assuming both remain unscathed in games earlier in the day.
Group B
Reigning men’s champion Germany, six-time former European title holder Denmark and unranked newcomer Slovenia are all unbeaten with 3-0 records at the top of Group B. Each nation beat Finland, Poland and Belgium, who are all winless after the opening day’s action.
Friday’s outlook: The bottleneck at the top of the table features three fascinating games when Slovenia and Germany meet at 9.15am and Denmark at 11.45am, then Denmark meets Germany at 3.30pm. Only two of the trio can advance to the semifinals.
Group C
Host France opened with a high-scoring 57-35 win over Czechia then beat Slovakia and Hungary and trails free-scoring Israel on points differential at the top of Group C. Israel scored 66, 50 and 58 points in their wins. Hungary (1-2) has been the surprise package, the unranked nation opening with a win over Sweden, who are ranked in the top 20 in the world.
Friday’s outlook: Provided they come through their other game in the group stages unscathed, France and Israel will meet at 3.30pm CET in the last of the group games before the quarterfinals begin. Hungary will hope to claim an unexpected third spot in the group.
Group D
Three nations remain in contention to advance to the quarterfinals from Group D. Italy and bronze medalists at last year’s IFAF world championships Switzerland both boast 3-0 perfect records. Ireland has won twice, defeating Norway and Ukraine with their loss coming against the Swiss.
Friday’s outlook: If Ireland beats winless Portugal to open Friday’s games at 8am, they will face the might of Italy, beaten finalists at The World Games in 2022, at 11.45am with the chance to create a three-way tie at the top of the standings. Italy then faces Switzerland at 3.30pm with the quarterfinal places still potentially on the line.
