During the buildup to the 2025 Euro Flag 2025, IFAF has posed three questions to the head coaches of the men’s and women’s teams ranked in the Top Six in the world, who are about to compete for continental glory.
Italy men’s head coach Massimiliano Bonomo has a coaching background exclusively in flag football. He played tackle football, while in flag he served as offensive coordinator at the 2015 European Championship in Spain and the 2016 IFAF World Championship in Miami, and as Defensive Coordinator at the U17 Junior European Championships in Grosseto 2023 and Belgrade 2024.
What are the goals for your team in this tournament?
Our first goal is to qualify for the next World Championship and then compete for a medal.
What will be the strengths of your team and which players should we watch for?
Our strengths include a very versatile offense and a disciplined defense. Players to watch: I’d bet on the Zaradka–Bouah quarterback to receiver connection, as they reunite after four years since their last competition (Israel World Championship 2021).
What do you think of the group you have been drawn into?
Our group is made up of experienced teams like Switzerland and Ireland, as well as younger and less known teams that can still pull off surprises in a single game.
