IFAF notes with regret the withdrawal of the Czech U15 Mixed and U17 Boys teams from the IFAF European Youth Flag Football Championships taking place in Italy in September.

In line with updated guidance from the International Olympic Committee in December 2025, IFAF has reviewed its policy on the participation of youth athletes from Russia and Belarus in IFAF competition.

As recommended by the IOC, national teams from Russia and Belarus are permitted to enter IFAF youth events and compete under their respective national flags.

The updated policy was approved by the IFAF Board at its meeting in Düsseldorf, Germany, on August 17 and will apply with immediate effect.

The decision reflects a recognition – shared with the IOC – that youth athletes should not be held accountable for the actions of their governments.

We are disappointed for the young athletes from Czechia who will miss out on a valuable sporting experience in such circumstances.
