IFAF World Flag 2026 Nation Profile: Nigeria

Africa’s sole representative in Düsseldorf will be Nigeria, the men’s and women’s champions from IFAF Africa Flag 2025. The ‘Giant of Africa’ lived up to its billing and captured both crowns as history was made in Egypt at the continent’s first-ever championships.

Nigeria lifted the women’s championship trophy with a 26-12 victory over Morocco, while the men triumphed by a single point with a 13-12 win against host Egypt.

In Opposition in Düsseldorf

Nigeria’s men face opponents from the Americas, Asia and Europe, meeting all three for the first time. World number two Austria finished as runner up in both the 2024 IFAF world championships and Euro Flag 2025. Asia champion Japan is ranked seventh in the world, while Canada was the bronze medalist at last year’s continentals in the Americas.

The women’s baptism of fire comes against reigning world champion the United States in another group of nations from four different continents. Seventh-ranked Spain, bronze medal winners at Euro Flag 2025, stand in their way as do Oceania champions Australia.
