The Mongolia American Football Association (MAFA) achieved a historic milestone on May 7, 2026, by officially being accepted as a member federation of the Mongolian National Olympic Committee (MNOC).

Leading the effort was MAFA President Tsedev-Ochir Tseren-Onolt, together with the association’s leadership and athletes, who held multiple meetings and working sessions with MNOC leadership. These discussions focused on MAFA’s governance structure, long-term development plans, grassroots initiatives, athlete participation, Los Angeles 2028 Olympic participation and the growing impact of flag football across Mongolia. On May 6, 2026, MAFA formally presented its case and membership request to the Executive Committee of the MNOC. During the presentation, MAFA outlined the association's vision, achievements, and commitment to contributing to Mongolia’s national sports ecosystem. Following the presentation, the Executive Committee approved MAFA’s application to proceed to a full membership vote by the MNOC member federations. On May 7, 2026, during the MNOC Member Federations Meeting's official voting session, the member federations of the MNOC voted in favor of accepting MAFA as a recognized member federation.

“This accomplishment marks a major step forward for the development and recognition of American football and flag football in Mongolia and reflects years of organizational growth, athlete development, and strategic leadership by MAFA,” said IFAF Director for Asia Daryll Nathaniel.

The successful vote represents an important breakthrough for the sport in Mongolia, opening new opportunities for athlete development, institutional cooperation, international participation, and future Olympic-related engagement through the global growth of flag football and American football. MAFA expressed its appreciation to the MNOC leadership, Executive Committee members, and all supporting federations for their trust and confidence throughout the process. The association also acknowledged the dedication of its athletes, coaches, volunteers, and supporters who have contributed to the growth of the sport nationwide. With official MNOC membership now secured, MAFA enters a new era focused on expanding participation, strengthening national programs, and elevating Mongolia’s presence in international American football and flag football competitions.
