Seven flag football quarterbacks from the national teams of seven IFAF federation members are taking part at a Flag Football QB Throwing Combine hosted by Wilson Sporting Goods, in partnership with IFAF on Thursday in Frisco, Texas.
Former NFL quarterback Jordan Palmer, who now serves as a quarterback trainer for NFL and NCAA passers, is running the combine playtest as an advisory staff member for Wilson.
The flag football athletes are going through a throwing combine with multiple types of footballs with different technologies to inspire which technology Wilson will produce for flag game balls for LA28.
During the testing at the Dallas Cowboys Practice Facility, Wilson is using their QBX sensors inside the footballs, which capture more than 15 different metrics on every throw. The throw data will be used to illustrate which football technology had the best QB performance across the different football construction types. Wilson will work with IFAF to adopt the official ball using the data captured which will prove the overall best technology for a flag quarterback to maximize throw performance.
Participating in the testing are quarterback Luis Effenberger (Austria), Michael O’Connor (Canada), Mauricio Fernandez (Chile), Luke Zahradka (Italy), Victor Balderramos (Mexico), Dennis Allen (Panama) and Darrell Doucette (USA), who all led their teams to qualification for this summer’s IFAF World Flag world championships to be played in Dusseldorf in August.
Doucette has led USA to five straight IFAF world titles and the top of the IFAF flag football rankings. Zahradka quarterbacked Italy to the IFAF Euro Flag continental gold medal in 2025. O’Connor’s Canada captured bronze at the 2025 IFAF Americas continental championships. Effenberger’s Austria won the silver medal at the 2024 IFAF world championships and is Europe’s top-rated team at second in the world.
