During the buildup to the 2025 IFAF Asia-Oceania Flag Football Championships, IFAF has posed three questions to the head coaches of the men’s and women’s teams about to compete for continental glory.
Theerawut Suvanratanamanee was the defensive coordinator as Thailand’s men won continental gold two years ago in Malaysia. He was at the helm in 2005 when Thailand won the NFL Flag Football World Championships for 12 to 14-year-olds with a dramatic victory over the United States in Beijing. He had also led his nation’s fortunes in Vancouver a year earlier.
As a player he represented Thailand at the 20025 IFAF Flag Football World Championships in Korea as Thailand won the bronze medal. He was head coach of the Thailand team at the 2021 world championships in Israel.
What are the goals for your team in this tournament?
Our absence at the IFAF World Championships in Finland in 2024, led to a decline in our world ranking. Our sole objective in this tournament is to win the championship, thereby setting the stage for the 2026 World Championships. Will many of the same players who won in 2023 return and what will be the team's strengths? Many players from the 2023 championship squad are certain to return for the competition. Our team's strength lies in its mix of diverse age groups. We possess both long-standing experience with over 20 years of playing flag football, and our strategy is diverse and flexible, making it hard for opponents to anticipate.
What do you think of the group you have been drawn into?I think our group stage is challenging, but we are committed to giving our all for the best possible outcome.
