During the buildup to the 2025 IFAF Asia-Oceania Flag Football Championships, IFAF has posed three questions to the head coaches of the men’s and women’s teams about to compete for continental glory.
Jordan men’s head coach David Kephart has a long history with American football. He was given the opportunity to play from grade school into college and has coached in a variety of settings both in the United States and internationally. Football has always provided him with unexpected and rewarding experiences and he expects the same from the Asia-Oceania tournament.
What are the goals for your team this tournament?
As coach of the Jordanian men, I see this tournament as a foundational moment. Our team has a real opportunity to establish itself for long term success and development. This tournament will be both a gauge of where we are as a team and how to best grow moving forward. I expect that we will play competitively, support one another, and represent Jordan well both on and off the field.
What will be the strengths of your team, and which players should we watch out for?
When I look at the make-up of our team, I am most inspired by the fact that we have players from all regions and walks of life in our wonderful country. We are a true representation of the Jordanian people. I believe our strength will be our defensive unit. However, both sides of the ball, offense and defense, will be prepared to play smart, fast, and with full effort.
What do you think of the group you have been drawn into, which includes reigning champion Thailand?
Like all the groups, our selected group is a strong one. We will have to play at our absolute best in order to challenge our opponents. Singapore plays with a never give up attitude. I have been impressed by their previous performances. Thailand is a top-notch team in Asia. They are athletic at every position and execute at elite levels. It will be an honor and privilege to start Jordan’s international journey against these two teams.
