During the buildup to the 2025 IFAF Asia-Oceania Flag Football Championships, IFAF has posed three questions to the head coaches of the men’s and women’s teams about to compete for continental glory.
Singapore men’s head coach Bernard Murray II has played American football since the early ’90s and has coached both tackle and flag at the high school and semi-professional level since 2010.
What are the goals for your team in this tournament?
Team Singapore’s main goal is to win. Any coach who tells you otherwise, needs to evaluate their role. Make the main thing the main thing: winning.
Our objectives to get to that goal is: One down One drive One half One game One day
Because, if, as a team, we focus on the ONEs, we’ve already WON.
What will be the strengths of your team, and which players should we watch for?
Team Singapore’s strength is the unit. There’s no “I” in “team” because the word is more important than any individual letter. With that being said, I would say, “watch our whole team!” But you’d think I’m being disingenuous. So, without giving too much away, on offense, key an eye on Peter, Brian, Lyon, and Nat. On defense, Nazhif, Shawn, Luke, and Jeremy.
What do you think of the group you have been drawn into?
Having played with and against many of the Thailand players and knowing anecdotally of Jordan players from my players in Dubai, I’ve got nothing but respect for both Thailand and Jordan. Our group is solid, and I cannot wait for Team Singapore to step on the field with them.
