During the buildup to the 2025 IFAF Asia-Oceania Flag Football Championships, IFAF has posed three questions to the head coaches of the men’s and women’s teams about to compete for continental glory.
Kuwait men’s head coach Saud AlHunaidi started as a tackle player, transitioned into a flag football player, later a flag football official and finally an assistant coach in 2014. In 2017, he was appointed to the position of head coach and since then was proud to help grow the sport in Kuwait. He is looking forward to the IFAF Asia-Oceania Flag 2025. He and his team are spending two weeks in a training camp in Shanghai before heading to Ningbo.
What are the goals for your team in this tournament ?
To compete as best we can and qualify for the world championships. Of course we will try our best to win the whole thing, but that starts by taking it one game at a time.
What will be the strengths of your team, and which players should we watch for?
We have a good mix of experienced and new players. I don’t think it wise to single out a certain player but I will say that we were blessed to be able to field this team and we are hopeful that they will get the job done.
What do you think of the group you have been drawn into?
I think it will be a competitive group. Having our first game be against the host team, China, is always tough added to the fact that we never played each other before so we have no information to build on. India as well is a strong team that we played in 2023 and they had possibly the best Asian quarterback, certainly the quarterback with the best arm that we've seen in Asia. Honestly, outside of group C (Korea, Indonesia, Mongolia) I think our group will be the most competitive.
