Euro Flag Day 2 Women

Reigning European champions Great Britain, the world’s second-ranked nation Austria, hosts France and 2019 winner Spain have all advanced to the semifinal stage of the women’s tournament at IFAF Euro Flag 2025.

The quartet has also qualified for the 2026 IFAF Flag Football World Championships to be played in Dusseldorf, Germany, next summer from August 13-16.

Austria will take on Spain while Great Britain faces France at 8am on Saturday at the Val-de-Marne Interdepartmental Sports Park in Choisy-le-Roi, Val-de-Marne, in the southeast suburbs of Paris. The games will be streamed live at IFAF.TV.

Despite losing in the final group game to Switzerland, Austria won a three-way tie to advance to the quarterfinals where they breezed 47-7 past Ukraine, who qualified for the knockout stages thanks to a one-point victory over Türkiye.

“The game against Switzerland was very close, a few screws were missing,” said Austria captain Katrin Mansbart. “Nevertheless, we are very satisfied.”

Great Britain topped Group B with a 4-0 record and a 51-14 victory saw off the brave challenge of unranked Slovenia whose win over Switzerland had won them the tiebreaker to move into the final eight.

“It’s been a great day,” said Great Britain defensive back Laura Carter. “We really started clicking on both sides of the ball and that’s given us some great momentum going into tomorrow. I know France have the home advantage but we have the momentum from that last game. We need to execute the things we do well, make the plays we need to make and be better than France.”

France beat Spain to top Group C and had too much firepower for Italy in a 48-6 quarterfinals victory.

“I am hyped, so hyped,” said France center Lucie Vinot. “At the end, our coach told us the intensity was there. We’ve just beaten teams who were at The World Games when we didn’t even qualify. If we want to go the Olympic Games, that’s how we have to do it.”

Spain bounced back from losing to the hosts to knock out Group D winners Germany with a 35-20 win and claim their place in the semis.

“Spain did a really good job in scouting our offense and taking away the plays that worked for us so far and our offense was not able to find the holes that the defense might have and use those,” said Germany receiver Kyra Fischer. “We’ll definitely want to place fifth and we feel we have the team to do that.”

The winning semifinalists will play for the IFAF Euro Flag 2025 gold medal and the continental championship at 2.15pm on Saturday, while the losers contest bronze and third place at 11.45am.

With six qualification places up for grabs for the 2026 IFAF Flag Football World Championships, losing quarterfinalists Ukraine, Germany, Slovenia and Italy have all to play for in their games on Saturday. The four semifinalists and the two next best placed nations after Germany – who qualify as hosts – will head to Dusseldorf.
