Six teams remain unbeaten after the first day of Euro Flag 2025 action at the Val-de-Marne Interdepartmental Sports Park in Choisy-le-Roi, Val-de-Marne, in the southeast suburbs of Paris.
Top seed Austria, reigning champion Great Britain and host France are among those who won all their games on Thursday. The top two nations in the final standings of each group will qualify for the quarterfinal knockout stages, which begin at 7.15pm CET on Friday.
Games played on Fields 1, 2, 3, and 4 will be streamed live at IFAF.TV. All scores, the game schedule and standings are available at the tournament website: https://euroflag2025.com/en/live-scores/
Group A
Fourth place finishers at last year’s IFAF world championships and The World Games in August, Austria got off to a winning start with a comprehensive 56-6 victory over the Netherlands before beating Slovenia 39-12. Unranked Slovenia had earlier cruised past the women’s tournament’s number eight seed Switzerland with a 51-13 victory after the Swiss had opened with a narrow win over Israel.
Friday’s outlook: Austria is poised to take a place in the quarterfinals but has to face third placed Switzerland at 2.15pm CET. Slovenia has qualification for the knockout stages in their hands having beaten Switzerland and now needs to beat Israel for a chance to advance.
Group B
Reigning European champions Great Britain began their defense with a close five-point win over Ukraine, and a 29-21 over newcomers Türkiye, who had signaled their arrival on the international stage with a 34-12 win over Czechia.
“We accomplished our goal of going 3-0 today and secured a spot in the quarterfinals,” said Great Britain head coach Jack Reed. “We look forward to finishing group play tomorrow against Czechia and hope to win Group B heading into the playoffs.”
Friday’s outlook: Great Britain takes on Czechia in a bid to top the group, while Ukraine, who won twice on Thursday, and Türkiye are in a three-way battle with Czechia to also advance to the knockout stages.
Group C
European runners up two years ago Spain and host nation France both won their opening two games convincingly, while Poland bounced back from a 34-point loss to Spain by beating Sweden. Spain heads the group at 3-0 while the chasing pack all have losing records after the first day of action.
Friday’s outlook: All eyes will be on hosts France (2-0) clashing with Spain (3-0) at 2.15pm to top the group heading into the quarterfinals, assuming France beats Poland (1-2) earlier in the day.
Group D
Germany set the pace in Group D with shutout wins over Ireland and Denmark while scoring a combined 122 unanswered points. Italy is also unbeaten having beaten the same group opponents. Both Germany and Italy have qualified for the knockout stages.
Friday’s outlook: Germany and Italy meet at 2.15pm CET with first place in the group on the line. Before that, Denmark and Ireland play for third place in the group at 10.30am.
