The British American Football Association (BAFA) is excited to launch Together to Inspire, a new strategy for the sport, with an additional £500,000 investment from Sport England through 2027.
Together to Inspire outlines key on and off-field strategic goals for the national governing body leading into 2028, aligning the ambitions of British American football’s contact and flag football community.
More than ten thousand players and 150 clubs make up the budding American football movement in Great Britain, and the confirmation of flag football’s inclusion at the 2028 Olympic Games has become a driving force for growth worldwide.
Through its mission of One Game, One Path, the strategy aims to provide the community with a clear and united direction for the sport, embracing the similarities of contact and flag football while respecting their differences.
An emphasis on deepening the sport’s participation pyramid, empowering its coach & official workforce, and producing high-performing national programme teams is supported by unified goals around commercial growth, member experience and digital profile.
With the launch of Together to Inspire comes the announcement of an additional £500,000 funding from Sport England, supplementing the £500,000 UK Sport funding secured in December 2024.
While the UK Sport funding specifically supports the development of the elite Great Britain Flag Football Olympic programme, the investment from Sport England bolsters core objectives around the organisation’s governance and infrastructure.
BAFA CEO Chad Ehlertsen said: “We are incredibly excited to launch Together to Inspire and share our vision for British American football moving forward.”
“We have listened closely through the Your Game Your Say survey shared earlier this year and constant engagement with our membership, and we are proud to bring the Britball community side-by-side with our vision, mission and new organisational values.”
BAFA Chair Nichole McCulloch added: “Investment from Sport England will be a true game-changer for the future of British American football, and we are grateful to have the amazing work of our volunteers and the wider sport recognised and rewarded.
“We have come together through our shared passion for American football, and we cannot wait to use that passion to inspire the players, coaches and officials yet to come.”
