The Trinidad government has officially recognized IFAF member the Trinidad & Tobago American Flag Football & Amateur Football Association (TTAFFA) to implement flag football in nine schools starting this September.
TTAFFA is a governing body dedicated to promoting and developing American flag football in Trinidad and Tobago. Established in 2009, TTAFFA aims to provide a structured and inclusive environment for athletes of all ages and skill levels to engage in these sports. The association strives to inspire and empower individuals through sports, promoting physical fitness, teamwork, and personal development.
“This is a major milestone for us, and we’re proud to be advancing the sport and empowering youth through this initiative,” said TTAFFA president Kijana Thomas. “We deeply appreciate the ongoing support and partnership with our government and look moving forward with this exciting chapter.”
TTAFFA has six core intentions aimed at developing the game in Trinidad & Tobago. They will promote flag football to increase awareness and participation across the dual-island Caribbean nation. Youth Development will encourage participation and development through structured programs and leagues. Community Engagement will build stronger ties with local communities, using football as a tool for social development.
International Collaboration will foster connections with flag football organizations to exchange best practices and reach the goal of participating in IFAF tournaments. TTAFFA plans to organize local and regional tournaments to create competitive opportunities and exposure for players.
The school outreach programs that have garnered governmental support will see initiatives launched to introduce flag football in schools across Trinidad and Tobago, targeting both primary and secondary students.
