Sweden and Finland clash at the Bergshamra IP in Stockholm on Saturday in the second of three games being played to decide the 2024/25 IFAF U19 European Championships (kickoff 12.30pm CET). The game will be shown live on IFAF.TV.

Host Sweden plays for the first time in the medal round, having qualified for the three-team round robin that will determine the destination of the Euro crown with group stage wins over Denmark and Germany.

Finland fell 41-14 to defending champion Austria on April 20 and only victory coupled with a points differential improvement will keep them in contention for the continental gold medal. A win for Sweden would set up a winner takes all meeting against Austria at the Innsbruck Football Zentrum on Sunday, September 21.

“Facing Finland is always something special, given the deep historical ties between our two national teams,” said Sweden head coach Sebastian Brinkenfeldt. “We hold the utmost respect for their players and coaches, knowing them to be well-prepared and a very resilient opponent.

“Hosting Finland on home soil adds extra significance to the game, and we are hopeful for strong support from our home crowd. We know it will take our very best performance to succeed, and we are eager to show just that.”

Finland won the first three European Championships (1992, 1994, 1996) while four-time silver medalist Sweden aims for a first tournament win having finished as runners up in 2019 and 2022.

Finland head coach Toni Uusitalo said: “We’re ready to go against Sweden. We gave up the ball too many times (in the loss to Austria). The number of turnovers was decisive. We knew before the game that it was an even match where we couldn't afford mistakes, and we made too many mistakes. The defense played well before the final breakdown.”
