The Cameroon Federation of American Football celebrated the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace (IDSDP) with workshops, games and lots of excitement at the newly built Olembe Sports Complex in Yaoundé.
The IDSDP is celebrated annually on 6 April, to recognize the power of sport in fostering positive change, bridging barriers, and transcending boundaries.
The Cameroon federation hosted women’s and men's flag football workshops in the nation’s capital, overseen by coach Enjuh Enabel and the CFAF technical committee.
Due to its vast reach, unparalleled popularity and foundation of positive values, sport is ideally positioned to contribute towards the United Nations’ objectives for development and peace. The adoption of this day signifies the increasing recognition by the UN of the positive influence that sport can have on the advancement of human rights, and social and economic development.
“We wish to thank the many authorities and government officials who joined the festivities along with other national sports and civil associations,” said Mr. Awasum Junior, president of the Cameroon American Football Federation. “We are especially grateful to the Minister of Sports and Physical Education for his extended invitation to the award ceremony on Wednesday April 9.”
Before the Sports for Peace Day, the Cameroon American Football Federation participated in the United States Embassy All Star Day which brought together multiple sports disciplines such as flag football, baseball and basketball.
