The top seven women’s teams from the 2024 IFAF Flag Football World Championships have qualified to compete alongside hosts China at The World Games in Chengdu in 2025.
World champions the United States, silver medalists Mexico and third placed Japan will be joined by Austria, Canada, Spain and Great Britain, who finished fourth through seventh overall at the 23-nation tournament in Finland.
USA beat reigning World Games champions Mexico 31-18 at Lahti Stadium to earn a third straight world title, while Japan beat Austria by a single point to claim third place as their 41-40 win was decided on the final play of the game.
Canada was knocked out of the quarterfinals by Mexico but bounced back in the placement games with wins over Great Britain and Spain to finish fifth overall, while Spain took sixth place. Great Britain secured the final spot on the Road to Chengdu with a 28-12 victory over Italy.
Flag Football made its debut at The World Games in Birmingham, Alabama, in 2022 as Mexico triumphed in the title game over the United States. Panama beat Austria to finish third and Japan was eliminated at the first knockout stage.
Canada, China, Spain and reigning European champions Great Britain will make their debuts at The World Games next year.
