Two men’s teams remain unbeaten after an action-packed second day at the IFAF Asia-Oceania Flag Football Championships in Kuala Lumpar, and the playoff picture in the quest for the continental title is taking shape. Two weather delays forced the postponement of a group game critical to the knockout bracket, which will resume on Sunday morning at 7am local time.

The group winners remain unbeaten with 5-0 Japan topping Group A and 4-0 Thailand Group B to earn a bye to Sunday’s semifinals.

Japan completed a perfect group stage with a 20-12 victory over closest challenger Australia (4-1) and now awaits either New Zealand or Kuwait in the semifinals. Kuwait (3-2) have won three straight, while New Zealand (3-1) edged hosts Malaysia 27-20 to qualify for the knockout stages.

In the other semifinal, Thailand (4-0) takes on the winner of a quarter final to be played between Australia and either Malaysia or Indonesia. The hosts led Indonesia 27-13 when play was suspended, and the eventual winner will improve to a 2-2 finish to claim the final playoff spot.
