Youth Flag Finals

Great Britain, Italy and Israel all won gold medals at the 2023 IFAF European Junior Flag Football Championships at the Fattoria La Principina in Grossetto, Italy. More than 400 young athletes from 12 nations competed during the three-day tournament at U17 and U15 levels.

Results, final standings and photos from the games in Tuscany are available at the event’s official website and highlights can be watched at IFAF.TV.

Great Britain’s U17 girls mirrored the success of their women’s team that won the adult European Championships in Ireland two weeks ago with a 19-6 victory over Italy to take gold. Italy had been unbeatable in the group stages, finishing with a 5-0 record, which included a narrow 7-6 win over GB (3-2) earlier in the competition, but were upset in the final. Austria claimed bronze with a 37-12 win over Germany.

In the U17 boys’ competition, Israel took the title with a 34-13 win over Serbia. Israel had forfeited a group stages game to group winners Serbia rather than play on the Sabbath but came back with a narrow semifinal win over previously unbeaten Italy.  The Italians claimed the bronze media with a 45-18 win over Great Britain.

The U15 mixed competition featured athletes of both genders for the first time, reflecting flag football’s highly inclusive nature and integration of male and female athletes in international sport. Italy came away with the gold medal, beating Czechia 27-20 in the final, and were the only team to remain unbeaten throughout the tournament across all age groups. The Austrian mixed gender team claimed their nation’s second bronze medal, outlasting Finland 32-30.
