Austria Win Gold
27 July 2022
Austria beat Sweden 13:10 in a top-class final of the U19 European Championship in Vienna and has remained unbeaten against European teams since 2011! The U19 national team is thus defending the title from the 2019 European Championships in Bologna and is now five-time European champions.
Austria Head Coach Roman Floredo (with tears of joy on his face): "It always feels good. The kids are just so good, it's amazing. It's so special - the boys work so hard; the coaching staff works so hard. The nights are really short, it's just beautiful."

European Championship final: Austria vs. Sweden 13:10 (7:0 / 0:0 / 0:10 / 6:0)
It was the expected tight game for the Austrians against a physically equal Sweden.
Running back Raphael Komeyli-Birjandi once again led the rushing statistics of the Austrian selection - in the end Komeyli-Birjandi recorded 138 net yards and a touchdown.
Running back Raphael Komeyli-Birjandi said after the game: "I'm speechless. We've worked so hard for this. We're an incredible group, a family, an Austria. Many thanks to the coach, it's an incredible job he's doing there. We are proud!"
In general, however, it was a very defensive game, only a touchdown ten minutes before the end brought the decision in favour of Austria. This game-winning touchdown was tough: Quarterback Zaricin passed the ball to wide receiver Fabian Eder, who threw the ball to Nils Keimel for the lead and ultimately victory.

3rd place match: France vs. Denmark - 0:3 after overtime (0:0/0:0/0:0/0:0/0:3)
In a balanced first game of the day, the defenses of France and Denmark dominated almost all four quarters. Both nations had their few chances in the opposing red zone, but were unable to convert them until the last quarter. The field goal attempts also failed. It came to overtime, in which Denmark presented with a field goal. Even now, no touchdown wanted to succeed. The French got their chance to score, were only a few yards from the end zone and a supposed touchdown was revised due to a panaltie. The fourth attempt was played, but failed. MVP of the match was Denmark's defensive back Valentin Sofus Warnock-Krolokke.
Denmark head coach Victor Ebsen Andersen: "Our defense was sensational. We knew that France is strong, but they were stronger than we thought, especially on defense. We wanted it more in the end. It's very emotional and difficult to put into words! I said yesterday in the final meeting that a 3-0 win would be enough - I never thought that my team would take my word for it."
MVP Valentin Sofus Warnock-Krolokke: "I'm speechless. We left our hearts on the football field. We've worked hard in recent years. I'm proud of our team."
