Adrien, Football, and the World
16 May 2022
Paris, France.- In 1992 in the small southwestern city of Pau, a warrior was born. His name is Adrien Darmana. He has been the France national team captain since 2019. A receiver and defensive back for his club Sphinx, Darman plays as free safety in defence for the national team.
"I have created so many bonds with people. I consider all the players like my family because we share so much. Especially with the national team right now. We have connected on so many level," he happily said.
"Each game is an adventure. Whenever there is one, either nationally or internationally, it is more than facing new people. I know that I am going to meet new friends and spend time with them. All of my best friends come from the sport", he added.
Darmana has played both tackle football and flag football. Although he likes the tackle aspect of the game, lately, he has been more focused on flag where he prides not only success on the field but the social element too.
Other than playing Football, Darmana loves to travel. Another thing that football has allowed him to do.
"I've always loved traveling. Of course, playing helps a lot. I've traveled to many countries. Sometimes it is to play flag football and meet new teams. Sometimes it is just me wanting to discover other countries", he said.
Japan has been Darmana’s latest’s obsession.
"In 2018, I was in Japan for two weeks, and I loved it. Now, I’m trying to go there for like six to nine months to really discover the country and immerse myself in the culture. I'm learning Japanese right now too, to reach that goal."
Allied to travel and meeting people, football has taught him responsibility.
"I've been lucky overall in my life. For example, the energy I'm putting right now to prepare comes from the years. I have learned to bring my best on the field. I'm honoured to be the captain of the national team. To me it is not just a title, it brings a little bit of responsibility. I think that's something that I can use on my daily life, and that would be maybe part of me in a way".
Darmana on the national team and his expectation for the World Games.
"First, I think we have a good dynamic in France right now.
For the World Games, we want some ambitions, if I could say. We know that it is very tough because there are amazing teams like USA and Mexico - the two best teams in the world right now. However, I think as a team we all agree that we want to win medals and that has to be our aim."
Above all, we want to experience the incredible stage The World Games will provide and whilst giving everything on the field, we do want to have fun", he concluded.
Adrien's job
Besides playing Football, Darmana and his brother operate their own travel agency, another part of his life that has come from playing football and traveling.
