The International Federation of American Football and the Olympic Channel have reached agreement for games from the opening day and the medal rounds of the 2021 IFAF Flag Football World Championships to be broadcast on the Olympic Channel.
Today’s announcement will see live game coverage streamed free-to-air around the world with broadcast facilities provided by host nation Israel.
ANDY FULLER, IFAF Managing Director, said: 'The IFAF Flag Football World Championships is a signature IFAF event with the popularity of the competition going from strength to strength as 2021 sees a record number of entries. The Olympic Channel will bring the event and our world class athletes to the widest possible audience.'
A total of 39 teams representing 22 nations are due to compete across men’s and women’s divisions at Jerusalem’s Kraft Family Sports Campus. New England Patriots chairman and chief executive Robert Kraft, who has led his National Football League (NFL) franchise to a record six Super Bowl titles, is the lead sponsor of the 2021 IFAF Flag Football World Championships.
The United States earned gold medals in both the men’s and women’s events for the first time.
The top seven teams at the event, not including the United States, will qualify for the Birmingham 2022 World Games. Flag football has been included on the World Games programme for the first time, with competition taking place at Birmingham in Alabama next July. It will be the first time the discipline has featured at an international multi-sport event, with the NFL providing support.
Alongside the 2021 IFAF Flag Football World Championships the Olympic Channel will carry games from the 2022 IFAF Women's World Championship (Tackle) in Vantaa, Finland. The United States are the defending World Champions and have recently announced that Cleveland Browns Chief of Staff CALLIE BROWNSON will serve as head coach of the 2022 U.S. Women’s Tackle National Team.
Games will be shown on December 6 and 8.
